ABOUT GOVERNING LANDSCAPES

A Governing Landscape provides the broadest view of the elements, forces and actors influencing the business’s formation and current state.

The view achieves this by setting out:

  • The boundary of the system the business exists in
  • The institutions within the bounded system
  • The governing rules and standards the institutions emit
  • The identity and nature of the governing rules and standards
  • The actors and resources influenced by the rules and standards
  • The relationships between the actors and resources and the business’s processes, products and services

A governing landscape is the initial architectural document. It prepares the way for the discovery of the business landscape by scoping and pointing out the matters that need to be investigated to thoroughly understand a business.
